Iris Smith Stable’s Seymourdini (Bernardini) may have earned himself a graded stakes assignment after an impressive victory at Belmont Park Monday. The 4-year-old, purchased for $900,000 at the 2015 OBS April Sale, romped home by a front-running 10 1/2 lengths in the State Dinner S. He completed the

1 1/16 miles in 1:39.81–just off the track record of 1:39.22 set in 2015.

“He’s pretty spectacular,” said winning trainer Linda Rice. “It’s taken us a long time to get him into this kind of form. He showed a lot of talent as a 2-year-old. He showed talent as a 3-year-old. It’s taken time for him to mature mentally and physically and put it all together. But today, he did.”

Seymourdini was scoring his third straight open-lengths victory after demolishing allowance company at Laurel Park in his two most recent outings this spring. He was earning his first stakes win in the $100,000 State Dinner.

As for where the bay may start next, Rice added, “If we’re forced to go to Saratoga, we might go at seven-eighths in the [Aug. 26 GI] Forego. I like running him further. He relaxes. He’s run two spectacular miles. I think our long-term goal should be the [Dec. 2 GI] Cigar Mile. That race makes stallions.”
